Today, I will be talking about how I to balance my full-time job with an online makeup course.
How I Manage My Time
Depending on what my schedule looks like (and if there are any curve balls thrown my way in life), I will always try to keep myself on a consistent schedule. I have a planner that I keep all my important dates, plans, and deadlines in. Between my full time job, my husband, my studies, my family, and my social life, it can get quite hectic at times! But so far, I have managed to keep it all together.
Study Plans
Diving head-first into my studies, I tend to complete all of my reading, videos, and written assignments within a week of completing my last assignment. I either split up my studies over seven days where I study a few hours per night, or I will take a full Saturday and Sunday to get them done. I then schedule appointments with my models for my makeup application assignments. Before working with my models, I normally re-read and re-watch my course books and videos to make sure everything I’ve learned is fresh in my mind.
How Many Hours Do I Actually Spend on My Course?
Including application, I normally spend anywhere from 15 to 20 hours per unit. It varies depending on how complicated the course work is, and if I need re-read books or re-watch videos to make sure I didn’t miss any information.
I tend to take more time with my practical assignments, as I always conduct a proper consultation with my models, and I always make sure every aspect of the application is properly applied. If an application does not turn out correctly, then I will sometimes have to reschedule with the model or find a new model to redo the assignment.
Which Part of the Course Takes the Longest?
Reading the course work and watching the videos is what took me the longest. If I felt like I wasn’t understanding all the information, I would stop the course videos mid-way to re-watch certain parts. I would also reread sections of my books to make sure the information really sinks in. I always take notes when reading through my course books. This way, I can go back to them if I have any questions!
I took my time going through my course, as I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t wasting my time by just quickly going through my course. Study and practice as much as you can. The end goal is the same for all of us… which is to be best makeup artist we can be. Push yourself to be better than who you were yesterday, and always strive for your best.
