My Biggest Fears When Researching Online Makeup Schools

I hope you’re doing great! I just started working on Unit F of the Master Makeup Artistry course and I am so excited! I can’t wait until I finish this up and receive my certificate, proof of all the hard work I’ve been doing this last year.

If you’re reading this and are not a QC Makeup Academy student, it is possible that you’re researching QC as an option to start or continue your education in makeup artistry. Congratulations if you are! Before starting my courses at QC, I researched many online makeup artistry schools. The truth is, you’re going to be spending quite a bit of money in order to get an education, so you should do extensive research to make sure you’re not wasting your hard-earned cash.

Needless to say, one of my biggest fears was to fall victim of some scam school and end up losing my money. I started my search on Google and went from there. An up-to-date site was the first thing I noticed about the different schools I researched. I searched for a “reviews” section on each site (even though reviews could be faked, but it’s good to look at them). I also looked for any kind of business certification like the BBB (Better Business Bureau) or any kind of education certification that made the school more official.

I also feared I would enroll in a real school but not learn anything, or that the lessons wouldn’t be good quality. That’s why I searched for sample lessons on the school websites. If that sample lesson was not up to par, the school was a no-go.

Another of my fears would be that I would end up buying a diploma or certificate, that I would not have to actually work for my grades, or would not have assignments. Let me warn you, you have to work your butt off at QC but I assure you that you WILL learn.

Enrolling at an online school requires a certain amount of trust too. When I enrolled at QC and learned that I would have a tutor that would personally look at my work and grade it, it crossed my mind that I would just receive some general, pre-recorded feedback (sorry guys!). Once I sent my first Unit I was on the lookout for some generic message. Thank goodness Nathan mentioned details about my work and mentioned that it “was cool that I was a heavy metal singer,” which I had written to him in my introduction on Unit A. That eliminated all doubts that it was not a real recording!

All in all, my advice to you is to do your research. Search for people who are already enrolled at any given school you’re looking into and talk to them, find videos of lessons, and if you have any questions about anything, write to customer service or student services. In my opinion, the service you receive is also an indicator of how good the school is.
