Today we are going to be chatting about the differences (or lack there of) between BB creams, CC creams and their close relative the Tinted Moisturizer.
The technical difference between them are as follows:
BB creams are intended to be a shade lighter than the skin, to help brighten and lighten the look. They are also supposed to be a little bit fuller coverage then CC creams/tinted moisturizers and provide a decent amount of SPF/skin care benefits.
CC creams are intended to colour correct. Tending to issues like redness or discoloration in the skin. They are usually a little lighter in coverage in comparison.
Tinted Moisturizers are fairly self explanatory in their name, moisturizer with a slight tint to even out the complexion naturally.
In my professional opinion, a non professional may not even notice much of a difference between these products. Unless you are truly analyzing the differences, in some cases, it may not be worth the difference in price.
By no means am I knocking these products, I use some and love them! I’m merely suggesting that the slight differences between the products may not be noticeable to the untrained eye. In turn, may not be worth the upgrade if that is in fact what you tend to do.
Personally, I like to mix these products into a fuller coverage foundation to sheer out the look and add dewyness. Personally I can’t not mix foundations when applying on my clients. I like to mix foundations/tinted moisturizers/bb/cc creams/luminators to achieve my desired finish. Maybe a full coverage needs a touch of luminosity to round out the look or even to tweak the shade. It’s nice to mix a few different colour families together as well as different finishes to really create a multi-dimensional skin-like finish.
Another use for any of the three products is as a base for a mask or halloween look. I like to create a barrier on the skin protecting it from harsher products, paints. I also enjoy using a BB/CC cream as a primer sometimes—I do this if I wish to add more coverage to the look!
Hope this read helps you guys out and maybe clears up some questions on the matter! Again, this is just my opinion, every artist has different experiences with different products and different clients. You will never know until to try and as an artist it’s our job to do so! Come to your own conclusions about this matter and any others you may question!
