  • Working as a makeup artist
  • A comprehensive list of the tools of the trade
  • Color theory basics

Unit A Assignments

In addition to joining QC Makeup Academy’s Virtual Community on Facebook, there are 3 assignments in Unit A:

  1. Introduce Yourself: Tell your tutor more about your personal and/or professional experience with makeup up to this point, as well as your career goals and the skills you hope to develop as an MUA.
  2. Preparing for Makeup Application: Next, you will need to set up both your professional workspace/makeup station, as well as your makeup artistry kit. This assignment will require you to answer 4 questions regarding this.
  3. Show Off Your Favorite Look: This is the first (and only) practical assignment in Unit A. You will be tasked with applying your own makeup and then providing photos of:
    1. Your full face;
    2. A close-up of your eyes (open);
    3. And a close-up of your eyes (closed).

Makeup Tools and Products You’ll Need to Complete Unit A

For Unit A’s practical assignment, you can use whichever preferred products you want from your makeup artistry kit. Some products you will more than likely be using are:
  • Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Eye makeup products
  • Blush
But again, since the makeup look is entirely up to you here, you get to decide which products to use (and not use).

Unit B: Flawless Complexion

Next, Unit B will teach you all about:
  • Preparing the skin for makeup application
  • Perfecting and defining the face (e.g., color matching, applying contour, bronzer, and highlight, etc.)
  • Skin tones and corrective makeup

Unit B Assignments

Pro Tip: From here on out, it is strongly recommended that all practical assignments be done on as many models as possible. As a result, you’ll gain the needed, real-world experience of applying makeup to different face shapes, skin types, skin tones, etc.

There are 2 mandatory assignments and 1 optional assignment in Unit B:

  1. Perfecting the Skin: You’ll take a before photo of the face without any product, and note any problem areas that may be present. You’ll then be tasked with using the required products to achieve a flawless complexion. Once the makeup has been applied, you’ll take/provide an after photo.
  2. Blush, Highlight & Contour: The same concept and steps as stated above, except this time, you’ll be applying blush, highlight, and contour to the face.
  3. Skill Test – Perfect Color Correction: Again, take a before photo of the face sans makeup. Identify the areas of discoloration you will be correcting. From there, using the color correcting techniques learned in Unit B, apply color corrector and conceal the areas of discoloration. Afterwards, take/provide an after photo.
