Have you ever thought about making the switch to vegan makeup? Or perhaps, as a makeup artist, you’ve encountered some vegan or vegetarian clients with specific requirements when it comes to the products you’ll be applying to their face? Some people are skeptical of vegan makeup because they think it won’t hold up as well or that there isn’t enough variety. However, QC Makeup Academy tutor Azzi Williams, is here to tell and show you that vegan makeup can be just as beautiful and vibrant as any other products in your makeup kit!
Here’s a summary of the complete application:
For this makeup application, Azzi is using completely vegan-friendly products.
Prepping and priming: To prep and prime the skin, Azzi is using Tarte Clean Slate Poreless primer. Place some of the product on your clean, sanitized hand or palette and use a flat foundation brush to apply it, concentrating on the T-zone and working it around the rest of the face. Remember, less is more when it comes to primer!
Foundation: One of Azzi’s go-to brands for cruelty-free foundation is Cinema Secrets. This foundation is not completely vegan, but it is one of the top cruelty-free brands! It’s very pigmented and widely used in film, television, and theatre. Apply the foundation all over the face using a flat foundation brush and blend it in with a wedge. You can also work it into the skin with a brush in a gentle buffing motion.
Concealer: Cinema Secrets can also be used as a concealer but without sheering it out. Azzi is using Kit #05 of the 5-shade palette for fair to medium tones, and applying the product using a vegan-friendly small flat concealer brush by Haute.
Setting powder: Use a translucent powder to set the foundation and concealer. For this look, Azzi uses the WilliamsPro Zero powder and lightly buffs it over the skin to make it last all day.
Highlighting: To highlight, Azzi is using NavĂ©’s shade in Giaccio on the cheeks. Apply using a small blush brush and use a flat buffer brush to blend it.
Check out that glow!
Contouring: For added dimension, Azzi is using NavĂ©’s shade in Noisette and lightly applies it in an upwards fanning motion using the fan brush from QC Makeup Academy’s brush set.
Blush: For blush, Azzi is using NavĂ©’s shade in Emoticon and applies it to the apples of the cheeks using a small blush brush.
Brows: Using the brow kit by E.L.F. which is vegan as well as budget-friendly, Azzi applies it where needed to fill in the brows using a Haute brush and brushing it through using a spoolie. Add lift to the eyebrows by applying NavĂ©’s shade in Chocoa along the brow bone.
Eyes: To prime the eyes, Azzi is using Haute’s beige primer with a macadamia base which is not only vegan-friendly but good for the skin! In the crease, apply NavĂ©’s shade in Chocoholic using an Urban Decay brush. Azzi then applies NavĂ©’s shade in Smoking applying with a flat brush and blending it with a fluffy brush. For an evening look, apply NavĂ©’s shade in Snob, starting at the inner corner and blending out. For even more dazzle and drama, use Urban Decay’s Moondust Eyeshadow in Space Cowboy, applying it with your clean finger along the lid.
Mascara: Apply mascara from root to tip using a disposable applicator. For a vegan-friendly application, Azzi likes Lights, Camera, Lashes by Tarte.
Eyeliner: Azzi is using an Urban Decay Perversion eyeliner to line the lash bed and bottom lid to achieve a smokey, dramatic look. Go back in with NavĂ©’s Giaccio to line the bottom, inner corner of the eyes, blending it with the black eyeliner.
Lips: Azzi loves OCC’s lip tars that are vegan-friendly and extremely pigmented. First, prime the lids so that the lipstick will stay all night long. Blot the primer before applying the lip tar. Line and fill the lips using the OCC lip pencil in NSFW and layer OCC’s Lip Tar in Harlot over the liner.
